Well, it is that time of the year again when you can drive around Lake City FL and see some Christmas lights. The two pictures of places that we found. Several Lake City Fl Neighborhoods have lights and I will name them below, but there are just a few homes that for sure you might want to check them out.

Check out the lights on Defender and Gold Club Ave on the east side of town and the corner of 240 and 133 (approx. 5 or so miles out, but is worth the drive).

There is also the one that is right behind McDonald’s off of Hwy 90 that is very good.

List of neighborhoods to drive through are listed below. Some of them you have to drive to the back of the neighborhood.

His name is Brian Allen and he played his High School days for the Tigers. After High School, playing here in Lake City FL, Brain moved on to College and then to PRO Football.

Yesterday, I received the April report from The Lake City Board of Realtors comparing April, 2008 to April, 2009 for the Lake City, Fl. areas on residential homes. In April, 2008 there was 34 homes sold and in April, 2009 there was 29 homes sold. That is a negative 15%.

The good news for Home Buyers is, in the same time frame, the Median Sales Price went from $156.650 to $125,000. That is a big negative 20% in price.

I have just received the February figures from The Lake City Board of Realtors comparing February 2008 to January 2009 for the Lake City, Fl. areas. In February 2008 there was 23 Homes sold and in February 2009 there was 33 homes sold. That is a positive 30%. Yea!

The good news for Home Buyers is in the same time frame the Median Sales Price went from $155,000 to $125,500. That is a negative 19% in price.

Impact Fees For Lake City, Fl. and Columbia County

The Columbia County Commissioners and the Columbia County School Board held a workshop last night (3/3/09). The County Commissioners will meet again this Trues. 3/4/09 to take a vote on stopping the Impact Fees for at least one year for Lake City, FL. and Columbia County.
There was several Builders, Developers, Land owners and Realtors that attended in support of them stopping the Impact Fees.

Most of the Columbia County School Board Members where not for it, but The County Commissioners are all for it and has the final say. It looks like from the meeting, that the Impact Fees will stop for one year.

Oct. 31 there will be the 5th annual Halloween Safety Bash from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm at the Lake City Fire Department.

The Columbia County Fair will start on Oct. 31, 2008. It will be held at the Columbia County Fair Grounds (Lake City, Fl.)

Nov. 1, 2008 There will be a Halloween Carnival having a Ghost Town in Lake Butler, Florida at the Kirby Farm. It will start at 6:00 pm and go to 10:00 pm. There will be a Haunt Trail only at 7:00 pm on Oct. 24, 25 and 31, 2008.

Nov. 18, 2008 The Holiday Inn and The March of Dimes will have at 6:00 pm at the Holiday Inn in Lake City, Florida "Holiday Magic Around The World". It will feature Chef Robert of Winn Dixie and area Chefs, along with a live and silent auction and much more. Come help support a good cause.

Football for Columbia County (Lake City and Fort White, Fl.)

The Columbia High School Tigers are now 1 and 3, but is still in the running for playoffs, because they have not started district games. The Tigers are losing the games by just a few points. They are looking better from the first game of the season. With the new Coach and the young Team, I guess it is going to take a little time.

The Fort White High School Indians are 4 and 0. They beat Middleburg High Broncos last week.

The Columbia High Tigers play at Terry Parker in Jacksonville, Fl. at 7:30 p.m. Come join us as we pull for the Tigers. Go Tigers!

A reception for the winners of The Art League of North Florida All Media Juried Art Exhibit will be at the Lake City Community College in the Levy Performing Arts Center. The time is from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Finally Friday will begin at 5:30 p.m. at the Olustee Park in Lake City. The movie will be Firehouse Dog. The Donald Johns Band will also be providing the music. This is always a fun event for the entire family.

A local Candidate Forum will be on local channel 8 on August 4, 5 and 7 from 7:00 to 9:00.

August 18 School starts back for Columbia County.

The Suwannee River Jam is this weekend at the Spirit of The Suwannee Music Park. There will be Country Music all weekend long. This is located just outside of Live Oak in Suwannee County.

The Finally Fridays will start tonight in Lake City, located Downtown at 6:00 p.m. The Bee Movie will be there for you to watch.

The Lake City Animal Shelter will be having Adopt A Pet Day this Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Lake City Mall.

I went last night (Friday night) to the rodeo and had the best time. It was one of the best that I have been to. The Clown has very funny and they keep it entertaining the whole time.

The Lake City, Florida ,14th Annual Gateway Pro Rodeo is Tonight (Friday 3/14/08) and Saturday (3/15/08) at the Columbia County Fair Grounds arena. The show starts at 8:00 p.m. both nights. Tickets are advance $10.00 and at the gate $13.00.

The weather on Friday might be a little wet, but what I have heard is that the seats are covered and they will still have it. Hope to see you there.

Big Event for Columbia County, Florida

One of the biggest events each year for the Lake City, FL. area is the Battle of Olustee. It takes place downtown Lake City in front of the Columbia County Court House. The date is Feb. 15-17, 2008. There will be arts and crafts, food, square dancing, music and much more.

On Feb. 17 the reenactment of Battle will take place in Olusttee, Florida.

How to save more money after buying real estate

One way to save money after you buy real estate (a Home) is to shop around for Homeowners Insurance. I was able to go from over $1000 a year payment to under $550 a year payment. It took me approx. 2 day calling around to different Insurance Companies, but that was o.k.

You will need to compare the same amount of coverage and the same rating of the Insurance Companies. The way that I was able to get this lower rate, was that one company rated my neighborhood different on the fire protection that the Columbia County supplies, then the other one.

I hope you had a Merry Christmas and that you have a wonderful 2008. The best way I know how to start the New Year off, by saving money $$.

If you bought a home in Columbia County, Florida (Lake City) and it is your main residents, you can save paying taxes on approx. $25,000 of the amount that you are taxed on, if you have not applied for Homestead on it before.

The Property Appraisers Office let you apply for this from January until March, 2008. For any questions, please call them.

How can you do this? It s easy, Take the following information to the Property Appraisers Office:

1. Driver Lic. of both spouses.
2. Voter Registration card (if you have one).
3. Your vehicle registrations.
4. Your Social Security Number.
5. Any other questions, please call the Property Appraisers Office.
